CAPS Personal Laptop Policy

As a facility required to protect sensitive data, CAPS must take certain precautions. If you wish to use a personal laptop while at CAPS the FSU wireless network (FSUWIN) is available. However. personal laptops are prohibited on the CAPS local area network. If you require the use of a personal laptop for CAPS work-related purposes, exceptions can be granted on a case-by-case basis with the approval of the employee's supervisor and screening of the laptop by CAPS IT staff. Approved laptops must have current anti-virus software installed (with scan-on-access enabled) and have all security patches for the operating system and common applications (e.g. Acrobat Reader, Java). Laptops cannot be approved with peer-to-peer file-sharing software (e.g. Kazaa, Limewire, Bearshare, Napster) or IRC clients (e.g. mIRC) installed.
