Research Programs at CAPS
The CAPS Program Approach
Develop the research infrastructure needed to address long range advanced power system issues
- Develop an advanced modeling and simulation capability
- Provide the experimental capability needed to validate models
- Support the technology base through selected system driven basic research in materials, components, and command & control

Real-time digital power simulator at CAPS
Focus on the systems issues of new and emerging power system concepts
- System reaction to new component characteristics
- New component specifications for improved system performance
- Power quality issues generated by solid state switching, pulsed loads, and fault management
- System performance — reliability, re-configurability, control are all changed with new components and technologies
Incorporate a formal program of cost and risk analysis and economic assessment of developments and markets
